The school was inspected 22 OCTOBER 2008

St Mary's Catholic Infant School, Newton has been found to be a 'good' school by Ofsted inspectors who said its

pupils thoroughly enjoy their learning in a school where there is a strong caring ethos and community spirit.

The Ofsted report said that achievement is good overall and strengths of the well cared for youngsters include reading and writing which gives them plenty of scope for independent thinking

while the entire curriculum matches their interests and needs.

Pupils enjoy coming to school,
attendance and behaviour are good

and they leave St Mary's with academic and personal skills that prepare them well for the future.

Inspectors found that the school provides good value for money, is well led and managed and that

staff work as a team - focused on providing the

best for all pupils including those with learning difficulties who progress well.

Some of the nursery teaching was said to be excellent and
the extensive outdoor area is used imaginatively, especially by the nursery.

 

The report details special themed events at the school that make learning more exciting

and the fact that parents are encouraged to get involved in their children's education.

Pupils are well supported and there is a 'pleasant family' atmosphere in school

and good supervision is provided at all times.
